Confidentiality/Guidelines/Categories/Ratings:

Author Confidentiality

To encourage the writing of stories you might hesitate to post elsewhere, it is our aim to preserve writer anonymity, unless you choose otherwise. Revealing your name or personal information to anyone, including Dormroom editors and site owners, is not required to post a story here. Privacy for all concerned is of paramount importance. It is assumed you will establish an anonymous e-mail address for correspondence and feedback in order to protect your privacy.

While identities can be concealed, writers must accept the fact that negative feedback or criticism cannot be prevented. Every effort has been made to advise readers regarding the content and rating of stories on this web site. However, anyone posting her or his work in a public forum, whether it is mainstream or adult in nature, should be prepared to handle any and all reader e-mails in a mature, intelligent fashion. Judicious use of the delete key is always at your disposal. There is a wide audience for this type of site, but like most writers, most readers won't readily admit to it, so don't necessarily expect a mailbox full of positive feedback either. The best advice we can give is simply to write for pleasure -- yours and the readers.

Crossposted stories are not accepted; however, if you have one posted on another site or on a list that you would like to remove and submit to the Dormroom, we will consider a rewrite or expansion of that story as an original. Contact us and we'll talk about it. There's some good stuff out there that we think would look great on this site.

Submission Guidelines:

All submissions are subject to editing comments and suggestions in the following areas:

Writing - Please pay careful attention to accurate spelling, grammar, and proper use of punctuation. We recognize most submissions come from nonprofessional writers, but with today's software programs, that is no longer an excuse for poor mechanics. You are urged to employ diligent use of Spell-check and Grammar-check before you hit that send button.

Canon/Characterizations - this is Emergency! fan fiction. The characters' basic traits and interactions described in your stories should closely resemble -- in actions and dialog -- the personalities seen on the show. Facts established in the series should not be altered. Create your own realistic original characters. Make readers love them or hate them, but bring them to life through imaginative writing.

Alternate Universe/Timeline - submission of AU stories is not encouraged, but they may be considered if very well written and believable. Your definition of what qualifies as AU may differ from ours, so we'll discuss it if the issue arises. In general terms, stories are expected to follow the series timeline and sequence of events, and reflect its setting in the 1970s. Stories that take place after Roy and Johnny became captains in 1978 are not considered AU and are welcomed.

Facts/Details - Medical information, fire fighting techniques, Los Angeles/Southern California geography should be researched as much as possible before writing. Dormroom editors can be very helpful in this regard, and questions during the writing process will gladly be answered. If you are unsure of anything, don't hesitate to ask questions in advance.

The editors will not change or rewrite any part of your story, but writers should expect that revisions may be solicited as a prerequisite to posting. Dormroom editors reserve the right to reject any story for any reason, but will always attempt to offer an explanation.

Content:

We want a variety of romantic and/or sexy stories that fit the categories shown on the home page, but not ones simply filled with one sexual encounter after another. Stories are expected to have plots and realistic character interactions that may or may not lead to the bedroom. They can be funny, lighthearted, serious, or sad. Unlike traditional romance stories, they do not always have to have happily-ever-after endings. Adult-themed stories that do not relate to romance will also be considered in the Under the Bunk category.

Content deemed acceptable, and specifically unacceptable, is clearly defined in the rating categories established on this site. Read them carefully. Writers are required to advise editors at the time of story submission which rating it targets.

Category Descriptions and Ratings:

Inside the Locker: Romantic tales without the sex. Stories your mother can read. Tear-jerkers are perfect here. Everyone loves a compelling love story. Kissing is at least encouraged, and mild language is acceptable. More adult situations than PG-13, but not quite R-rated.

Behind the Door: For those who like naughty, but nice. Stories here flirt, tease, titillate, and take the reader to the threshold, but when it comes to the real thing, it's kept behind closed doors. Overtly intimate sex scenes and strong language do not belong in this category. The lighter side of an R-rating.

Under the Bunk: Not sure what you'll find amongst the dust bunnies. A broader range of stories which contain some sex and possibly strong language. Stories here may be romantic, humorous, full of drama and angst, or of the ever-popular hurt/comfort variety. An assortment of stories that don't quite fit the other categories. R-rated for content and language.

In the Shower: Only one sex scene allowed -- and it must be in the shower. Creativity rules! Just don't forget the story that puts them there. Could be Hard R or NC-17 (X)-rated.

Between the Sheets: Extremely explicit sex and frank language. Not for the merely curious, shy, or faint of heart. Erotic, graphic, definitely in the "carnal" category. Please be sure to read the following for what is NOT acceptable here. A Hard NC-17 rating.

Unacceptable Content - No slash/No exceptions. Absolutely no sexual situations involving minors, no violence against women, no nonconsensual sex, and no sex in the station. Nothing too kinky (that's our call) or vulgar, no smut, no trash. That can be very subjective in the eye of the beholder, but use some common sense and don't go there. Keep in mind we're looking for a cut-above the norm in adult storytelling.

Because there is often a fine line between explicitness/eroticism and pornography, the editors reserve the right to recommend changes, or ultimately reject a story based solely on their personal view of what is and what is not acceptable for this site.

Emergency! Dormroom is intended for the pleasure of mature readers. Even though our guidelines are a little lengthy, remember we want quality fanfic stories by writers who have a sense of fun and adventure. Relax and let your hair down a little. No one will know who you are. E-mail us if you have any doubts or questions before you pull those hidden stories out of your closet, or start tapping away on the keyboard.

We look forward to enjoying your stories.
